Ninja Drools #20 Mandu

11:00 AM Posted by ninja No comments
I was wanting to try a Korean Mandu after seeing it on an episode of Let's Eat 2

For the mandu I used a combination of recipes from Maangchi website (http://www.maangchi.com/recipe/mandu) and one from Crazy Korean Cooking (http://crazykoreancooking.com/recipe/dumpling).

I have had some difficult time getting ground pork that I am satisfied with so I tried just getting some pork chop that has plenty of fat in it and threw it into the food processor.  The result was actually quite good and I was pretty satisfied with it.
I liked cooking the filling first so I don't have to be paranoid of it being under-cooked... although I think it might retain more juice if I don't precook it.
I added some clear noodles to my filling.

I also threw in some chopped napa cabbage, green onion, shiitake mushrooms, tofu and garlic.

I fried my mandu this time but I actually wished I would've cooked them in a soup instead. Pan fried mandu wasn't bad at all, but I was always one of those that preferred boiled dumplings instead of pan friend, so really just personal preference.
