My Sunshine (C-Drama) Review

10:22 PM Posted by ninja , 6 comments
Drama: My Sunshine
Synopsis: Two ex-lovers meets again after seven years apart. A lot of things has changed... but their feelings hasn't. Will they be able overcome the misunderstandings that broke them apart in the first place?

Ninja brand of synopsis: Chinese Naoki Irie... well, the hero in this one is a vast improvement on the expression of love than the real Naoki... but you get the idea.

Heart of Steel (T-Drama) Episode 1-2 First Impression

Drama: Heart of Steel (T-Drama)

Synopsis: After his sister's accident, Ke Zhi swears he will not touch motorcycles anymore but after he meets the heroine a series of events makes keeping his promise difficult. Will Ah Zhi chase after his dream or keep his promise as his guilt demands.

Yang Ke Zhi, Hero. After coming home from a self exile due to his sister's accident, Ke Zhi is determined to keep his promise to his father to never touch motorcycles again. But after accidentally injuring an employee of a motorcycle shop, Ke Zhi has no choice but to work his debt off.

Our hero has a kind heart, brilliant at customizing motorcycles, great fighter and most of all, deeply immersed in his guilt towards his sister who has been in a coma for years.
Gao Ming (2nd Male Lead) Friends with Ke Zhi but also has complex feelings towards him because his girlfriend still harbors feeling towards Ke Zhi. Son of a wealthy father, Gao Ming is not your usual 2nd generation rich boy but is one who is determined to blaze a path in the world of motorcycle business on his own merit.

Ren Yu Jie (Heroine) Despite her sunny disposition, Yu Jie is working hard under the pressure to make enough money for her sister to receive the necessary medical operation she needs. Yu Jie meets Ke Zhi when he saved her from a bunch of men in a dance club and since then she has been like a whirl wind turning Ke Zhi's life upside down. Yu Jie's dream is to be a professional dancer but she has since given up that dream due to her sister's illness.
Shen Yi Jun (Second Female Lead) An expert lawyer, Yi Jun had a crush on Ke Zhi since her university days, but after Ke Zhi disappeared without a word Yi Jun ended up dating Gao Ming. Now that Ke Zhi is back, Yi Jun's heart is starting to flutter again for him.

Recognize these two for those of you who watches T-dramas? Kuo Shu Yau (She is currently in Aim High as Mao Mao) and Ren Wu (The Lying Game) guest starred during the first episode respectively as a dancer and dancer trainer. I especially had a good laugh at Ren Wu's portrayal of the effeminate dance trainer since Ren Wu has had quite a few lead roles lately so it was awesome to see him playing a funny side character for once.

First Impression

Is Taiwan such a dangerous place? That was my first thought after watching the episode 1 & 2 of Heart of Steel. In a span of two hours, there sure was a lot of random jerks that popped out of no where. However, if one just over look the random baddies, the show itself really has potential. The acting is not bad at all and the motorcycles are great of course.

With the many new shows that are out there right now, I am not sure this one will make it on my watch list but I do think it has potential.

Healer
Our heroine and hero are finally facing each other as their real self. Hooray! Superhero romantic kisses aside, it was getting a bit disturbing to watch our heroine pine for someone she has never even seen.

Episode 13 Favorite

Moment #1
In his delirium Jung Hoo calls for Young Shin and grabs onto her hands. That familiar feeling of holding Jung Hoo's hand finally hits Young Shin over the head with the suspicion that Jung Hoo is Healer. Rushing to Jung Hoo's car, Young Shin searches for clues to confirm her suspicion and finds the paper star she made.

I love this part ... well... because she knows!!!!

Birth of a Beauty

Time to put this one on your marathon list for those of you who like to wait until a show finish airing before watching it! A show with a lot of imperfections but I still enjoyed myself. Remember to go in with low expectations and you will like it.

Fav Moment #1
Despite Young Shin's belief that she only has eyes for Healer... I think she is also falling for the nerdy version of Healer too. My evidence? This scene where Young Shin is really bothered by the fact Jung Hoo admits that he is avoiding her and has chosen to follow Moo Ho around instead.

Buffalo Takoyaki

2:13 PM Posted by ninja 3 comments

I have wanted to try this recipe ever since I watched Surplus Princess (K-Drama 2014) and they had a Takoyaki food truck in the show. However, instead of a regular Takoyaki I wanted to try subbing chicken strips for the squid and switch everything out so it would work with a Buffalo sauce. So it really can't be called a Takoyaki anymore since I believe Tako stands for squid but I am still calling a Buffalo Takoyaki.

This recipe got rave reviews from Daddy and Mommy Ninja but not so much from those who is not used to the tokoyaki texture. I personally liked it and thought it makes a good midnight snack.

Recipe
1 Cup All purpose flour
2 tsp Baking Powder
pinch of salt
2 eggs
1 tbs of Buffalo sauce
1 2/3 Cup of Buttermilk
4 oz Breaded Chicken strips fried and cut into small chunks (chunks of cooked chicken can be subbed)
1/2 Cup Shredded cheese (I had three cheese mixture on hand, but any cheese would work)
Optional: I throw in some chopped spinach in my second batch.

Mix everything together except you leave out the chicken and cheese until the very end.

Heat the Takoyaki pan on the stove top on medium heat.

Don't forget to spray the tokoyaki pan with oil before you put the mixture in it. Also prepare two toothpicks or skewers to turn the tokoyaki. (I know you are suppose to just use one but I just find it easier with two skewers.)

For some tips on how to turn the tokoyaki in the pan I found this video on youtube.

BTW, looks like most people add the filling to the tokoyaki mixture after it starts cooking but I personally find it easier to just mix them in together so I am not in a chaos when I start cooking. Also just expect your first batch to look ugly no matter how quick you are.

For those of you who doesn't own a tokoyaki pan, I believe you can try them in muffin pans, but I would probably personally suggest a mini muffin pan if you can find one.

Topping
Buffalo Sauce
Bleu Cheese Dressing
Parsley

C-Drama Lady & Liar Trailer

9:27 PM Posted by ninja , No comments

Show: The Lady & The Liar (千金女賊)
Episodes: 45
Air date: 1/29/2015

Synopsis: Set in the 1930's Shanghai, a train accident helps a female thief steals the identity of a daughter from a wealthy family. Our heroine, the wealthy daughter who lost her memory due to the train accident finds herself in the arms of a powerful mob boss who uses her amnesia to pose as her fiancee. All the lies comes to a head when our heroine's first love who recovers his eye sight after the heroine's train accident refuses to believe the female thief is the woman he loves and starts on a quest to get her back.

The trailer really boosted my interest in this show. Everything looked so pretty! I am intrigued to see Hawick Lau's powerful but love sick mobster boss. I believe Hawick Lau's character will be the hero but just from the synopsis alone, the second lead seems like a powerful contender for the heroine's love as well. But then who can resist a bad boy (a powerful one at that) who loves only you?

Running Rose (New show- K Daily)
I am up to ep.11 on this one and I think it will take at least another five episode for me to decide if this one is a keeper or not.
