Ninja Drools #18 Gimbap

1:30 PM Posted by ninja No comments
I started thinking about making Gimbap after watching the last episode of Angry Mom where the heroine had made a whole bunch of it for her daughter's class outing.
Angry Mom Ep 16
I have actually never had Gimbap before so this was a new experience for me.
For my Gimbap I used mushroom, red onion, steak, carrots, imitation crab, bea sprouts, and yellow pepper. I marinated the meat with some store bought Korean BBQ sauce but most of the recipe I have seen just marinate the meat with soy sauce, garlic and a bit of sugar.
After stir frying the ingredients, I also made some eggs and cut them into strips.

I liked the gimbap a lot and can totally understand why in K-dramas this is the food of choice for picnics but I have to admit that I was totally craving some old fashion sushi after gimbap. I think I was probably craving the wasabi more than the sushi itself. Anyhow, the gimbap was a lot of fun to make and it makes me excited to try other combinations.

This Week's Drama Food

Be With You Episode 30-34 Summary

1:52 PM Posted by ninja 1 comment
Sitting at Ying Jie's desk Daddy Zhen coolly tells Ying Jie "There is no one that is a necessary existence.... unless that person is family. This company doesn't need you, you can leave now."

Despite Daddy Zhen's brave words though, judging by the sadness on his face, he is not as unaffected by Ying Jie's departure as he let's on.

The Cage of Love (New C-Drama, Daily, 35 Episodes Long)
This is a Romeo and Juliet sort of story but according to the promotional material I think the ending will actually be a happy one so I am thinking about squeezing this one onto my watch list.

Ninja Drools #17 Watermelon Fruit Salad Monster

12:00 PM Posted by ninja 1 comment
I took this lovely beast camping today... well... just an outing. Sadly, I am really not the camping type despite the fact I used to like imagining myself as a nature loving person. Anyhow, this baby was really popular and the adults for some reason was even more excited than the kids by the fact I added blueberry jello to the fruit salad.

I usually just use a kitchen knife to carve the watermelon but this time I used pumpkin carving knife and it worked really well.

Be With You Episode 24-29 Summary
Dismayed to see Shang De in front of her, Man Li refuses his request to talk privately. Determined to talk to Man Li, Shang De decides to confess right there that nothing ever happened between the two of them but it was all a prank set up by his drunken friends. (Ha! I won the bet between Mama Ninja and I. She thought Man Li was pregnant but I was guessing maybe nothing actually happened.)

Masked Prosecutor (K-Drama/ New)
So excited!!! I am a fan of both Kim Sun Ah and Joo Sang Wook so this is like a dream come true for me. I am ashamed to admit I though Kim Sun Ah was quite a bit order (purely because I have seen a lot more of her work for a much longer period of time than his) than Joo Sang Wook but turns out she is only three years older than him.

Ninja Drools #16 Mango Cake

9:15 AM Posted by ninja No comments
Summer is taking its time to get here, but I figure I should start getting in the mood by making a Mango Cake. This was a really popular dessert with my mango loving family so give it a try if you can get your hands on a can of mango pulp.

Mango Cake Recipe:

Mango Cake Ingredients
1 Box of Yellow Cake Mix
1/2 Cup of Oil
4 Eggs
2 TBS of Coconut Powder (Optional)
1/4 Cup of Water
1 Cup of

Mix all the ingredients together and pour into a 9 X 13 pan.
Bake at 350 F for 30 hour or until the cake is golden and springs back when you press it lightly.
While your cake is cooling mix the toppings together:
1/3 Cup of Milk
1 Cup of Mango Puree
1 large box of vanilla pudding

Hint: I throw these three ingredients into the blender for a few seconds to get it blended really well.

Now from here on there are two options you could go. 1. Add half block (4oz) of softened cream cheese to the blender and blend well. OR Use a spatula to fold a regular sized tub of whipped topping into the blended mixture.

The first option will yield a fairly thick topping while the second option will obviously be a lighter one.
For this cake I went with the cream cheese option but the whipped cream one is also a good one.

Drizzle the cake with additional mango pulp and strawberry topping.
I didn't have fresh mango and strawberries on hand but that would go really well as a decoration. I took this cake to a potluck and it was very popular, although I think the kids probably would've preferred the whipped cream optional instead of the cream cheese one, but most of the adults liked it as it is.

Friday Drama Round Up #28

Who Are You School 2015 (K-Drama/ Aired to Ep. 6)
Synopsis: An orphan girl who tries to commit suicide after being bullied at school, our heroine wakes up in the hospital without any memory of who she is and as she starts to regain her memory, she finds out that she has actually been living her twin sister's life.

This one looks interesting and the plot moves rather quickly. However, I am not really in the mood for one more school bullying show now that I just finished watching Angry Mom AND is currently following Make a Woman Cry. To be fair, out of the three shows Who Are You School 2015 is probably the one that deals with the issue of school bullying in a more focused manner while the other two sometimes only uses school bullying as a jumping point for other plots. Anyhow, well made show that is worth checking out for those who are not burned out like me.

Divorce Lawyer in Love Episode 5-6 Recap & 2nd Impression

Divorce Lawyer in Love Episode 5-6
Falling right along their co-worker's imagination, Cheok Hee and Jeong Woo's sting operation does end up landing them in the same hotel room... unfortunately other than a kinda "charged" moment while Jeong Woo is putting a patch on Cheok Hee's back our two leads are still fighting like cats and dogs. Although I love the fact that despite all of Jeong Woo's show of  dislike for Cheok Hee he still went and got her meds for her back all on his own.

I will go back and re-write episode five summary but I am not sure I have it in me to do the other four episodes over again. (I am going to go cry in my bed now...)

I'm Home Episode 5 Summary
Hoping to unlock more of his lost memories, Hisashi pays a long overdue visit to his mother whom he mostly ignored before his accident. During his visit, Hisashi is surprised that their family's liquor store has been changed to a convenient store and is being managed by his younger brother. Noticing the convenient store's lack of customers, Hisashi digs around and finds out that thanks to an ex-employee who is wildly claiming that Hisashi's brother had falsely accused him of stealing when he was just innocently shopping for merchandise, many customers and even suppliers has been boycotting the store. Hisashi's brother did try to prove the ex-employee's stealing with the store's surveillance tape but for some strange reason the surveillance malfunctioned and the man was able to laugh at Hisashi's brother's hopelessness.
Slightly frustrated, Hisashi complains to his brother about their decision to suddenly stop operating the liquor store. Bursting out in anger, Hisashi brother grabs his collar and yells "This was because of YOU!"

Turns out, the pre-accident Hisashi was actually the one who convinced his mother and brother to switch business but didn't brother to concerned himself with them after they followed his words.
Shocked by how cold his previous self could be to his own family as well, Hisashi pulls out his trade mark determination and not only convinced the suppliers to keep doing business with the store but also found evidence (by getting the surveillance tape from the street) to prove that his brother did not falsely accuse the man of stealing.

Thankful for everything Hisashi did, Hisashi brother softens his attitude towards him but also reveals the shocking news that their mother is very sick.
Patching things up with his mother, Hisashi invites her to Yoshio's (son) Peter Pan stage play. Despite having Hisashi tirelessly practiced his line with him before, Yoshio still froze during the play but was fortunately able to snap out of it when Hisashi reminds him of the "courage seed" that he "planted" in him.
