Friday Drama Round Up #82

Lucky Romance (Korean Drama, New)
A wacky romance about a woman's quest to fulfill a fortune teller's promise that if she sleeps with a man born in the year of tiger she will be able to change her life's fate and save her sister's life at the same time.

I checked out the first two episodes and found the story to be a lot of fun. Hwang Jung Eum is obviously quite good at playing her usual bumbling and eccentric sort of heroine so I was good with her. The hero however took me a bit to get use to. Ryoo Joon Yeol plays the hero and he really doesn't have what I would consider your typical "oppa" look but I am happy to report that by the end of episode two I was 90% on board and am even starting to find him good looking...in a rugged, nerdy, quirky sort of way.

Oh Hae Young Episode 5-6 Favorite Scenes

Ninja's Episode 5-6 Favorite Moments
Moment #1
Feeling quite reckless after entering into a dare with her boss (hero's sister) to throw herself at a man, Hae Young's eyes light up when she sees Do Kyung. Tossing her purse to the side, Hae Young takes off at a full run towards Do Kyung and throws herself at him. Having already seen this whole situation in a premonition, our hero debated within himself if he should just ignore Hae Young but thankfully decides at the last minute to catch her instead. I really liked this moment because you could see from both of our leads' expression that the embrace made them feel something.

Friday Drama Round Up #81

Ninja's Friday Drama Round Up #81
Mirror of the Witch (Korean Drama, New)
I have always liked Yoon Si Yoon so I was pretty excited to see him as the lead in Mirror of the Witch. The first episode was so dark that it sent chills up my spin with how spooky it felt but I really liked it. The second episode was a lot lighter and had more of a fairy tale feel to it which is totally up my alley. Anyway, I am not quite ready to call this a winner yet but at only 16 episodes long I think we should find out by next week.

Refresh Man Episode 11 Recap

Refresh Man Episode 11 Recap by Ninja
Breaking out in a small smile when he was finally able to see Yu Tang wear the hairband he got her instead of the offending present from Zhi Yu, Wen Kai quickly hides his satisfaction the moment Yu Tang looks over.
Pleased by Wen Kai's gift, Yu Tang's good mood is short livid however, since our hero insists on hiding all of his good intention by putting up his annoying bossy facade...such as giving Yu Tang a sticky note with a reminder that "the cleaning lady must text when she safely arrives home."

Friday Drama Round Up #80

Ninja's Friday Drama Round Up #80
Flower of Prison (Korean Drama)
Sigh...I am sad to report that episode 3-4 wasn't as interesting as the first two episodes BUT next week is when we formally moves into the adult characters' story so I will probably at least give it another week before I decide on this one.

Happy Home Episode 21-22 Recap

Happy Home Episode 21-22 Recap by Ninja
Mi Soon's Story: Unsettled by the thought of leaving the kitchen behind, Mi Soon is extra picky as she tries to make sure all the staff would be able to do their job well without her around. Walking into the kitchen just as Mi Soon is busy yelling at everyone, Daddy Bong unceremoniously cuts her off and announces right then that Mi Soon will no longer be working at the restaurant anymore.

Stunned and hurt by Daddy Bong's words, Mi Soon says in disbelief "I have spent the last twenty years of my life in this kitchen..."
Impatient, Daddy Bong retorts "So, you think without you the restaurant will close? I am still around so who are you to think you are all that? The restaurant won't collapse without you so stop shaking the employees up and just leave."

Love at Seventeen Episode 5 Recap

Love at Seventeen Episode 5 Recap by Ninja
Pausing in the middle of complaining about Alice to notice Hao Yi's rather alarming speed of shoving his lunch into his mouth, Shu Lei sighs in frustration as Hao Yi confesses that he usually eat two lunch boxes whenever he is nervous and asks "So you are in need of courage because of Alice?" Smiling, Hao Yi replies "No, I will be okay, because this is my third lunch box now."

Refresh Man Episode 10 Recap

Refresh Man Episode 10 Recap by Ninja
Despite his latest quibble with Yu Tang, our hero still goes all out and brings in a chef from Japan to personally teach Yu Tang's father how to improve his little restaurant's menu. Sitting at Yu Tang's house, Wen Kai smiles when he gets a text from Yu Tang asking for some work advice. Mighty pleased as he mutters "You finally broke down and contacted me...", Wen Kai's smile quickly turns to a scowl as he reads Yu Tang's next text "I already talked to Zhi Yu and he thought it was a good idea, how about you?"

Friday Drama Round Up #79

Oh Hae Young Again or Another Oh Hae Young (Korean Drama, New)
Eric's new tvN drama! Episode one was a bit slow and confusing for me but by episode two I have grown to love the wacky but very heart warming story.

By the way, it is awesome to see Seo Hyun Jin starting to move out of the second lead territory and getting leading lady roles.
Flower of Prison (Korean Drama, New)
It's been a while since I found a historical drama to follow so I am hoping this one might be a winner. It certainly doesn't hurt that Ko Soo is playing the hero... but of course the plot is the most important consideration! (Cough...)

As you probably can guess from the poster and drama title, the story is actually more focused on our heroine who grows up in a prison and uses her brilliant mind to become a law consultant (of sort) to help those who are powerless.
My Son-in-law's Woman (Korean Daily)
This one is more than half way through but since Mama Ninja has been marathoning this one lately I thought I should bring it up. A story about a man who loses his wife and raises his only child with his mother-in-law but eventually ends up falling in love with another woman...who of course turns out to be the mother-in-law's actual daughter. Yes, pretty makjang premise but the story also has a lot of heart. Check it out if you are in need of a daily.
My Amazing Boyfriend (C-Drama, New)
A new C-drama with My Love From the Star sort of premise but with a very different feel.

Episode 1-3 First Impression: HERE
Xiao Zhang Fu (Chinese Drama, New)
A nona-romance comedy with a very cool heroine who has learned the art of making lemonade out of lemons. Surprisingly funny with a lot of heart.
Sekai Ichi Muzukashii Koi (Japanese Drama)
I am a bit behind on this one, but this is one hilarious show with it's strange humor. My favorite character in this whole show is actually the hero's secretary who is more like mother/sister/therapist/butler and is tasked with the difficult mission of helping her boss peruse the heroine.

Favorite scene so far: When the very patient secretary had to explain to the hero how telling the heroine that she looks like a mushroom is not the way to win her affection.

Oldies but Goodies
I was thinking about featuring some of Eric's dramas but alas my mind won't stop thinking about Soulmate (2006) after watching Oh Hae Young Again. I wouldn't say the two drama are too similar other than having a bit of supernatural component in it that reinforce the notion that the two leads are meant for one another but still, the two shows just seems to give off the same vibe.
Billed as the K-version of Sex In The City, Soulmate follows a small group of young adults as they tries to find the meaning of love and most of all answer the question "Is there such thing as a soulmate?"

Hmm...that synopsis didn't sound too interesting did it? I guess you just have to trust me that Soulmate was a very thought provoking drama that left a big impression on me. By the way, the music in the show was awesome, so go watch it if not just for the great sound track.

ps. A warning...the ending was not the greatest...but maybe appropriate for the show? So don't get put off by it.

Happy Home Episode 19-20 Recap by Ninja
Hae Won's Story: Embarrassed in front of the whole office when Kang Min brazenly reminds her that she had promised to give him a month's salary to compensate for "touching his body" a short while ago when she accidentally fell on top of him, Hae Won has no choice but to keep her word.

Love at Seventeen Episode 4 Recap

Love at Seventeen Episode 4 Recap by Ninja
Episode four started with a flash back to the past to show us what happened between the almost/could've been young lovers.

Unable to overcome his fear of rejection, Hao Yi ignores a text from Alice asking him along with Shu Lei and Xiao Fen (hero's sister) to go to their favorite gathering place so she would have a chance to explain herself. Surprised when he goes home to find Shu Lei with his sister sitting over a box of pizza, Hao Yi is dismayed to realizes that not only did the girls ignored Alice's text but they have been ignoring her ever since they got back from the camping trip. So it wasn't too clear in the flash back but I am guessing at least a week or maybe a lot longer has passed since the camping trip.

Running all the way to the meeting place, the young Hao Yi calls loudly for Alice but he was too late and she is no where to be found.

Refresh Man Episode 9 Recap

Refresh Man Episode 9 Recap By Ninja
Sigh! Sadly our heroine's drunken declaration of her intention to "eat" Wen Kai doesn't result in a kiss since she passed out right before anything exciting could happen. However, at least we were given a flash back that clues us in to what Wen Kai's other reason might be for taking care of Yu Tang.
