Friday Drama Round Up #113

Ninja's Friday Drama Round Up #113
Kanjou 8 Gousen (Japanese Drama, New)
I was looking around for a J-drama to put on my watch list and ended up checking this one out. Connected to one other only by a train route (train line 8- thus the name), the story follows six women's lives as they each hide secret pains and trials underneath a happy facade.
Definitely not your peppy carefree sort of show as it deals with some pretty heavy issues but judging by the first episode the show seems well made. I am not really in the mood for a heavy J-drama right now though so I will be passing on this one for now.

Ninja's 2016 Year End Review

Ninja's 2016 Year End Review
I thought about doing a 2016 top ten but quickly realized for someone as indecisive as me it would be next to impossible for me to figure out which great drama I would place above another beloved drama. So, here is a list of 2016 dramas that made a deep impression on me.
Jealousy Incarnate (Korean Drama, August 2016)
Kudos to the brilliant script writer who managed to take all the romance cliches and made them not only hilariously funny but heart warming as well. The awesome and super sexy chemistry between Kong Hyo Jin and Cho Jung Seok also made this one very memorable as well.

Blow Breeze Episode 35-36 Recap

Ninja's Blow Breeze Episode 35-36 Recap
Trusting Mi Poong whole heartily even with all the mounting evidence against her, Jang Go tries to get Grandfather Kim to reverse his decision to fire Mi Poong but by this point Shin Ae has already told Grandfather Kim a bunch more lies to convince him that Mi Poong AND her mother are people without morals.

Without any way to defend herself against an invisible enemy, our clueless heroine is soon booted out of the company much to Shin Ae's satisfaction. His heart aching for Mi Poong especially after a fruitless day of trying to find any means to clear her name, Jang Go comforts his dejected wife and assures her that he will do whatever he can to prove her innocence.

Friday Drama Round Up #112

Ninja's Friday Drama Round Up #112
Candle in the Tomb (Chinese Drama, New)
Another C-drama about adventures in tombs. After watching The Mystic Nine I was afraid Candle in the Tomb was also going to be all noise with no monsters in sight but nope, there are definitely plenty of scary monsters in this one. The pacing of Candle is quite fast and I found the story intriguing. Just a word of warning though, Joe Chen (the heroine) doesn't show up until episode 6 (30 minutes long episodes) so don't expect her for the first bit.

Blow Breeze Episode 33-34 Recap

Ninja's Blow Breeze Episode 33-34 Recap
Shaking with fear when her daughter tearfully confesses that Mi Poong's nephew has one of Grandfather Kim's ring, Shin Ae convinces Mama Jo to go to Mama Kim's house. Thanking her lucky stars to find Yoo Song alone at home, Mama Jo searches frantically for the ring but fails to find it. (The ring has rolled off to the back of the dresser)

Afraid that Yoo Song might say something to his grandmother, Mama Jo makes up wild stories to frighten the poor child until he tearfully promises to never tell another person about the ring.

Friday Drama Round Up #111

Ninja's Friday Drama Round Up #111
Goblin (Korean Drama)
I can't even begin to describe how much I love this show! How can you not love a show that makes you laugh AND swoon for a full hour?! I don't consider myself too picky of a drama watcher but I do have a high bar set for shows I consider worthy of "Sit in dark by myself so I can squeal in private!" Goblin definitely fit in that category for me.

Friday Drama Round Up #110

Ninja's Friday Drama Round Up #110
Goblin (Korean Drama)
I am addicted... Is it bad that I REALLY wish we could get rid of everyone in this show and just fill the rest of the time with Gong Yoo and Lee Dong Wook bickering? I was laughing so hard in episode two when Gong Yoo's Goblin character was "fighting" with Lee Dong Wook's Death that my stomach ached.
Not to say our female leads are doing bad at all because they are actually holding their own against the impossibly charming male leads. I find the heroine's sass and vulnerability endearing so there is no doubt that her romance with the Goblin is going to melt my heart. Yoo In Na's character hasn't met Lee Dong Wook yet but judging by how sexy and eccentric her character is I think this paring will be a lot of fun as well.

Friday Drama Round Up #109

Ninja's Friday Drama Round Up #109
Night Light (Korean Drama)
I can't remember the last time I have watched a drama centered on the theme of womance (as in the opposite of bromance). I have seen complaints that Lee Yo Won seems to only have one expression in dramas...and I can see why people feel that way but for some reason I still like her as an actress quite a bit. I am behind on this one but judging by the first two episodes, both Lee Yo Won and Uee are doing an impressive acting job. Lee Yo Won plays an ambitious business woman who skillfully draws Uee's character into her world of intrigue and greed with her magnetic personality. It is kinda weird to talk about chemistry without involving the hero (who is the ex to Lee Yo Won's character), but the chemistry between Lee Yo Won and Uee is awesome.
